About Graves County

In the very heart of the Jackson Purchase, in far western Kentucky, close to where the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers flow together is one of the largest counties in Kentucky:  Graves County.  Named after Major Benjamin Franklin Graves, a member of Kentucky’s General Assembly and Major in the War of 1812.  Major Graves committed his life to agricultural pursuits, which the county clings to even today.

Industrial growth was substantial throughout most of the twentieth century.  Boasting state of the art school systems, nationally recognized infrastructure, post-secondary education opportunities close to home and exceptional healthcare, Graves County offers a low cost of living with a high quality of life.

Graves County is rich in heritage, creativity and diversity.  We offer opportunities in the arts, a rich history including politics as well as Civil War battle sites; agricultural heritage abundant in tobacco, row crops, dairy and poultry.  Graves’ history of legends and leaders includes a United States Vice-President, four United States Congressmen, famous and infamous heroes, singers, songwriters, and noted writers.
